Marc Laimon - Jiu Jitsu Coach

Marc Laimon is a renowned grappling coach holding the rank of 5th degree black belt in Brazillian jiu jitsu. He coaches full time at our Pewaukee gym, and once a week at our Oak Creek gym.

Marc is the original founder of the world famous Cobra Kai BJJ academy in Las Vegas and has worked on the ground games of several MMA fighters, including Bas Rutten, Oleg Tatakrov, Mark Kerr, Frank Mir, Rico Rodriguez, Tito Ortiz, Chuck Liddel, Joe Stevenson, Kendal Grove, Johny Hendricks, Shane Roller and many others. Marc is known also for producing well known jiu jitsu black belts such as Sim Go and Chris Holdsworth.

Marc was an instructor on the famous MMA reality tv show TUF (The Ultimate Fighter) and also had three TUF show winners come out of his gym in Las Vegas. Marc has coached numerous UFC champions and was even able to take a fighter with little experience (Johnny Hendricks) all the way to UFC champion.

Having traveled the world competing and coaching at the highest levels of the sport and achieving many goals, Marc now resides in Wisconsin and is focusing on passing his knowledge to everyone that wants to learn.

Jason “Kaz" Kazmierczak - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Coach

Jason “Kaz" Kazmierczak (black belt in BJJ since 2012 under Daniel Moraes) is a (retired) professional mma fighter and runs our “Breakfast Club" program at Nova Gyms!

There is no better way to start your day then to participate in Kaz’s 6am NOGI BJJ Breakfast Club classes on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday mornings in Oak Creek.

"Kaz" is the founder of “Woog-Jitsu”, has been training mixed martial arts since 1994, as in undefeated as a professional MMA fighter.

Jason is also a USA Wrestling Certified Coach and spends his time coaching wrestling, football, and baseball in the Franklin, WI school district.

 
Calvin Allen - Associate Brazilian Jiu Jitsu CoachCalvin has been helping others learn jiu jitsu since joining Nova and making jiu jitsu a part of his lifestyle. Calvin currently studies with Marc Laimon in Oak Creek during the week and coaches passes on the knowledge to the other students at Nova as an associate coach.When Calvin is not teaching jiu jitsu at Nova he is traveling the world as an Evangelist representing his church.

Calvin has been helping others learn jiu jitsu since joining Nova in 2015 and has been making jiu jitsu a part of his lifestyle ever since. Calvin currently studies with Marc Laimon in Pewaukee during the week and passes on that knowledge to the other students at Nova.

Luke Sherwin - Part Owner, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Coach, Competition Team Coach and Strength & Conditioning Specialist

Luke has been involved in Milwaukee area martial arts since 2011 when he began training and competing in local MMA fights and grappling tournaments. After a brief amateur career he transitioned into focusing on strength and conditioning over competing. Luke holds multiple certifications through the National Academy of Sports Medicine including personal trainer, mixed martial arts conditioning specialist, group fitness instructor, performance enhancement specialist, corrective exercise specialist and weight cut specialist.

Luke still trains consistently and is a Brazilian jiu jitsu purple belt under Marc Laimon. He coaches Jiu Jitsu at Oak Creek as well as coordinates for the Nova competition team. As the owner/operator he runs the administrative side of the gym where you'll often see him at the desk when you walk in. Scott Shockley - Head Judo Coach

Scott is a Judo Blackbelt and jiu jitsu brown belt.

Scott Shockley started his Judo career in 1986 at the age of 11. In 1986 Sensei James Peterson brought Judo to Hadfield Elementary in Waukesha WI. Scott was a member of his first class. Scott immediately excelled in the sport. Within the first few years of training Scott won numerous tournaments and back to back Wisconsin state judo championships. He traveled the country and competed for many years. During this time Scott fought in hundreds of matches and seldom did he not make the podium.

Scott has been fortunate enough to be able to learn and train with some of USA’s best Judokas over his career which Includes but not limited to his head coaches James Peterson and Randy Bauers, Bobby Burland (Olympic Silver Medalist), Steve and Irwin Cohen (Olympic athletes and 2000 Olympic coach).

At the age of 14 Scott was promoted to a senior rank of brown belt which was unheard of during this time. At the age of 16 Scott had his black belt promotion in his sights but he suddenly walked away from Judo for many years. Scott came back to the sport in the mid 90’s and started competing again. He was promoted to black belt in 1998. Shortly after receiving his black belt Scott suffered a career ending knee dislocation during a match. Scott has stayed active as a Judo coach at Wahadachi Judo in Milwaukee WI and has recently started training in Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu at Nova Gyms with coach Marc Laimon.

Jordan Seufzer - MMA & Fitness Coach

Jordan is a professional mixed martial artist who shares his love for learning mixed martial arts with our community.

Jordan helps coach our fitness kickboxing classes in Oak Creek as well as helps with the beginners and kids jiu jitsu and MMA classes.

Ron Wiza – Kids & Adults Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Coach

Ron is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu purple belt under Jason “Kaz” Kazmierczak’s “Woog-Jitsu” system of grappling and a Judo orange belt under Scott Shockley. He specializes in no-gi Jiu Jitsu and helps to run the adults and kids Jiu Jitsu programs in Oak Creek. Ron understands the unique challenges that smaller grapplers face controlling and gaining dominant position over larger competitors. He has a passion for helping others achieve their goals on and off the mat and is always willing to learn from others and share his tips, tricks, and knowledge with anyone looking to improve their game.

Ron can be found at the gym most days, but when he isn’t training Jiu Jitsu, he enjoys weightlifting, the outdoors, and family time with his wife, kids, and dogs. Ron started training Jiu Jitsu to bond with his son (Cooper) and he fell in love with the sport immediately despite not having past grappling or martial arts experience.


Aaron - Kids Advanced & Beginner Jiu Jitsu Coach

Aaron is a highly experienced and dedicated kids jiu jitsu coach at Nova. As the son of co-owner Calvin, Aaron has been immersed in the world of jiu jitsu from a young age. With 8 years of training under his belt, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his coaching role.

What sets Aaron apart as a coach is his exceptional compassion and patience, particularly when working with young children who are just starting their jiu jitsu journeys. He understands the importance of creating a supportive and nurturing environment where kids can feel comfortable and confident in their abilities.

One of Aaron's key strengths is his ability to make learning fun for his students. He believes that enjoyment is crucial in fostering a love for jiu jitsu and ensuring that children stay motivated throughout their training. By incorporating games, challenges, and interactive activities into his classes, Aaron creates an engaging and exciting learning experience for all.

With Aaron as their coach, youngsters embarking on their jiu jitsu journeys can expect a dedicated mentor who prioritizes fun, knowledge, and individual growth. His compassionate nature, patience, and genuine care for each student make him an invaluable asset to Nova’s coaching team.

 

Hunter - Personal Trainer, Strength & Conditioning Specialist

Hunter is Nova’s in-house personal trainer. He is a fitness expert that has a degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Strength & Conditioning from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. During his time at UWO he also competed in the long jump and completed the strength coach internship. After college he completed the NSCA Strength & Conditioning Specialist Certification as well as the NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist Certification. Hunter has used this knowledge during his personal training for the last 3 years.

In addition to his education he has also been an avid weightlifter for over ten years and has also been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Nova since December of 2020 and is currently a blue belt. Hunter enjoys programming specific workouts and regiments for his clients and is always looking to help others achieve their fitness goals.

Matt - Mitt Man, Striking Coach

Coach Matt goes by many different names: Matty Atlas, Matty Mitts, Matty Muscle Man, Coach Matt, Barry, etc. But one thing that is always consistent about him is his passion for fitness and martial arts and helping others find the benefits of them. Matt joined Nova in 2020 looking to add some positive fitness routines into his life and his weight loss journey. He fell in love with martial arts so much that he lost an impressive 200lbs in the first year training at Nova. Since then he has been an inspiration to everyone he comes in contact with and has researched, trained and traveled to further his own striking knowledge.

Chris Martin - Founder/Former Owner

Chris helped co-found Nova Gyms Martial Arts & Fitness in 2014 and continues to train at both our Pewaukee and Oak Creek facilities.

Chris first fell in love with martial arts in 2006 when we he started training boxing, and muay thai kickboxing in Milwaukee, WI. However it was in 2008 when he started training Brazilian jiu jitsu that Chris lost over 50 pounds, which changed his life.

Chris has been coaching beginners for over eight years and has helped numerous individuals achieve their personal and competitive goals, both on and off the mat.

As a Marquette University graduate (2001) Chris also continues to give back to his Alma mater by coaching and growing the Marquette Brazilian jiu jitsu team.

Chris sold the gym to Luke and Calvin in January of 2022. Although he is no longer involved in the operations of Nova he is still very much a part of Nova and can regularly be found attending Coach Marc Laimon’s class on Saturday mornings.

Chris also gives back to the Jiu Jitsu community by providing both hobbyists and competitors alike the ability to have insurance that can cover any martial arts related injury.

Bryan Millard - Striking Coach

Bryan is a martial artist that specializes in Muay Thai. He is a very dedicated and passionate coach as seen by his desire to spend as much time as he can helping others to improve their striking technique.

Bryan first fell in love with striking at age 13 when he started boxing at Duke Roufus. He eventually made the switch over to Muay Thai and has even traveled to Thailand to further hone his craft.

One of his main goals is to put his skills to the test by competing in Muay Thai. His other goal is to continue to grow and progress as a coach so that he can continue help others achieve their own martial arts and fitness goals.
